A New Recipe: Fried Oranges

A new recipe

A new recipe

Well Kaelin has invented a delicious and healthy new recipe we thought we would share with y’all. The Fried Orange. Sounds worse than it is. It caused us to go through a 10lb bag of oranges last week. Well that and our new citrus juicer. (yes, that picture is technically a grapefruit. We were experimenting. The orange was better, but the grapefruit was still good.)

Its pretty simple, and absolutely delicious.  First you take an orange, chop it in half, then peel it. Once you have the two halves, proceed to chop a little off the top of both halves (the round part). Partially so it will sit up strait, and partially as part of the recipe.

Dip the exposed parts of the fruit (tops and bottoms) in sugar. Try to get it evenly dispersed, but only as much as will stick from dipping.

Spray a pan with pam, and plop it on there. Cook it on both sugar covered sides until the sugar is golden brown.

Tada, that’s it. Kaelin likes to garnish it with some yogurt, but we have used pureed fruit before too. The melted sugar will harden a bit on the top and bottom, making a nice light candy coating. The cooking really brings out the orange taste, but it seems much less acidic and harsh. Bon appetite.

So has anyone heard of this before, or did we really invent it?

As a side note, thanks Mom and Dad for letting me steal your china ten years ago. We love our fancy eating. Here is us enjoying some Chinese on our china.
